Mombassa Beaded Belt

For the new season, Cordings is introducing a collection of ethically hand-beaded dark brown leather belts, crafted by a collective of Maasai women in Kenya. The Maasai, with a rich history of beaded jewellery, imbue their beadwork with cultural significance: red symbolises bravery and unity, yellow or orange stands for hospitality, white represents peace, blue signifies energy, green symbolises health, and black represents the people and their endurance. Each belt, taking 1.5 to 2 days to complete, is a testament to their craftsmanship and community spirit.

The belts feature sustainably sourced Kenyan leather and recycled brass buckles from the Ngong Hills. By purchasing these belts, you are supporting the Maasai women, their families, and the preservation of their cultural heritage. You can read more on the story of our Beaded Belts here.
